Friday September 20, 2024 1:20pm - 1:50pm PDT
In order to build students’ number sense and reasoning skills, participants will expand their understanding of procedural fluency to include carrying out procedures flexibly, accurately, and efficiently.  We will showcase various routines that can be flexibly utilized in the class to support all mathematicians’ number sense and reasoning skills.  The joy and creativity of mathematics will be evident as we consider these routines for immediate use in our classrooms.

Strengthening Foundational Skills: Instructional Routines with UFLI Foundations
Friday September 20, 2024 1:20pm - 1:50pm PDT
Many DCSD elementary schools have found success using instructional routines from UFLI Foundations-- a CDE approved intervention and supplemental resource--to supplement their Tier 1 foundational skills instruction.  Classroom teachers, interventionists, and special educators have reported that UFLI is affordable and teacher-friendly (aside from buying the book, teaching slides and all other materials are free on their website), and includes many opportunities for engaging student practice with both decoding and encoding.  In this session, we will provide an overview of UFLI Foundations.  We will dig into how lessons and routines are structured, and how they can be incorporated into the foundational skills components of our Core Programs, Benchmark and Wonders.  Teachers will walk away with a basic understanding of UFLI Foundations, as well as next steps for implementing UFLI routines within their current program.

Lead with the Math - Integrate the Personal Financial Literacy (K-6)
Friday September 20, 2024 2:05pm - 2:50pm PDT
Feel like you can’t squeeze one more bit of new content into your planning? Financial literacy doesn’t have to be “new” – it can apply tools students are already learning – reading, math, etc... into a topic students are interested in – buying things and getting stuff! In this session we’ll look at an eclectic mix of resources and applications that will expand the lessons you already teach in math to look at money, decision-making, and real-world skills.
